Hallooo, dear Dodopadlers! Miss Peabody here!
My, my what a delightful festive season I’ve had! I hope you all are enjoying the holidays as much as I am. I’m pleasantly plump from all the delicious festive fare at our Christmas dinner here at Dodo Towers. Now it’s time for some serious walking (it off)! I’m off to beautiful Glen Dodoe to celebrate Hogmanay in the Highlands. The bracing mountain air always does me good at this time of year and, dare I say it, nobody does a New Year celebration better than our friends north of the border!
Every year I trek up to Glen Dodoe and always bring my Dodo Travel Log along with me. In it I record the details of my trip, places I’ve been, delicious meals eaten, sites seen. I love to look back at entries from years past and relive my travel experiences. On the pages I stick photos using the enclosed photo corners, and in the handy pockets I put tickets and souvenirs. Each year I meet new people and add them to my ever-growing Addresses section (which is also useful for keeping the details of friends back home to send post cards to). Before I go on my trip I check the useful websites list in my Travel Log for weather, transport and lodging information (always best to be prepared!). And when I travel to farther-flung destinations (which I do occasionally) I find the lists of International Dialling Codes and Time Differences immensely useful. And as with all of Lord Dodo’s inventions, this little book is enriched with drawings, wit and wisdom to inspire me on my journey. The elastic strap holds it all together so it doesn’t flap around in my bag. I just pop my Travel Log into my suitcase and off I go!
If you or someone you know plans to travel in 2010 then the Travel Log will be indodispensible. And from now until January 15, 2010, you dear readers of my blog can get the Travel Log for 15% off when you enter the promotional code 09MP at checkout.
Happy New Year to you all and I wish you all the best in 2010.
Toodle-oo for now!

Hallooo dear Dodopadlers! It’s Miss Peabody wishing you a very happy Christmas from all of us at Dodo Towers!
We are having a dodelightful festive season here. I must say, all of my Christmas planning has paid off. The Grand Hall looks grand indeed with our splendidly decorated Christmas tree placed directly at the foot of the stairs where it can be admired by one and all. And I’ve placed the mistletoe in a very secret location hoping to catch Lord Dodo by surprise! But so far, to no avail…
We have an elaborate Christmas dinner planned, which I predict will leave us all feeling like stuffed turkeys! In addition to the bird will be my special cranberry sauce (a smidge of orange makes it especially tasty) and Lady Dodo’s famous parmesan brussels sprouts. My Great-Great-Gran’s recipe for Christmas pudding, which I make every year, will of course be the featured dessert as usual, but there will be no shortage of other treats. After dinner we will waddle over to the television for the Queen’s speech, where I expect I will promptly nod off (as I usually do).
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! If you get the chance to come and visit us here at Dodo Towers, do drop in. You can come along wassailing with us!
Toodle-oo for now,
A very jolly, festive Miss P!
Hallooo dear Dodopadlers! It’s Miss Peabody here with a very exciting topic this week!
Users of the Dodo Pad and/or Acad-Pad diary will notice on this week’s page the anniversary of the unveiling of the supersonic Concorde airliner in 1967. This magnificent aircraft ushered in an era of luxury high-speed travel. Instead of enduring an 8 hour flight between New York and Paris, Concorde passengers enjoyed 3 and a half hours of elegant transport and service. When traveling from New York to London, the rapid flight and 5 hour time difference meant the Concorde arrived at her destination before her departure time! She was known as being “faster than the sun.”
Concorde accomplished this enormous velocity by flying at an altitude of 56,000 feet (17,000 meters) at the speed of Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound). This kind of fast-flying didn’t come cheap: a return ticket with British Air between London and New York cost passengers £6,290 plus tax! Scale that figure up to today’s cost equivalent and the price is truly astounding staggering. Yet more than 2.5 million passengers were happy to pay the price to fly BA’s Concorde. Concorde’s last commercial flight from New York to London was in October 2003, bringing to a close an historic era in aviation.
My how interesting! The Dodo Pad diary is indeed a wonderful source of information and inspiration.
Here at Dodo Towers things are simply dodelightful. The chill in the air and the twinkly lights sparkling in the Grand Hall tell that the festive season is almost upon us! What plans do you have for your holiday celebrations? Do leave a comment and tell us all about it.
I hope you are having a wonderful December! Toodle-oo for now!
Miss P
