It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years since the first ever Dodo Pad hatched back in 1966. Yes, other important events took place that year too – England won the World Cup, Harold Wilson’s Labour Party won the General Election and John Lennon announced that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
But, fast forward five decades and, while The Beatles have no doubt cemented their status as music icons and memories of that emphatic win over Germany continue to flood back during every international football tournament, I think you will all agree that it’s the Dodo Pad that’s really still standing the test of time!
Our 2016 range – complete with its opulent gold and purple covers – is a fitting tribute to the rich history of this much-loved brand and, as we hurtle towards Christmas and into 2016, we’re delighted to announce that we’re still OFFICIALLY the UK’s number one diary!
With 2016 marking the 50th anniversary of the beloved Dodo Pad, it’s an honour still to be king of the diary world – and Lord Dodo is pulling no punches when it comes to keeping his rightful crown out of the hands of the competition.
According to Amazon, the 2016 Dodo Pad is the out and out leader of the pack when it comes to desk diaries – boxing away the competition from other big hitters including the ever-popular Royal Horticultural Society, Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Arsenal, Marvel Comics and The Simpsons just to name but a few.
As well as topping the best sellers list, the Dodo Pad is also officially the most-gifted diary in the pack whilst Lord Dodo has his boxing gloves on in a hotly-fought contest with Moomins for the crown of best-selling Mini Calendar. It’s a heavyweight battle that’s been dragging on for weeks so watch this space…!
I, myself have been at the helm of Dodo Pad for more than 20 years and I am absolutely dodelighted that this collection of diaries and planners I adore is still so loved after all these years.
And I’m sure the wonderful late Sir John Verney – the founder of this spectacularly quirky brand – would be over the moon to know that his creation continues to be such a valuable aid for thousands of people year in year out.
When he came up with the unique Dodo Pad grid diary concept – with added flashes of his own artistic and literary brilliance to brighten the pages – as a way of organising his chaotic family schedule, I wonder if he imagined then that 50 years later his planners would still be topping ‘UK best-seller’ polls?
It’s an amazing achievement – and one that wouldn’t be possible without all of you wonderful Dodo Pad fans. In your words, the Dodo Pad is definitely not just a diary – it’s something you could not live without.
I, for one, am proud to help play a part in helping to keep people’s lives in order in our own unique Dodo Pad way. I’ll make sure Lord Dodo keeps those boxing gloves on to tackle any pretenders to our diary crown for a while yet… 😉
