Dodo Pad paper now available for your planner (Very proud reblog)

This post originally appeared on the very influential Philofaxy blog on Monday 11th July 2016. Since I’ve not worked out how to reblog a blog from Blogger on WordPress, here it is in its entirety. Suffice it to say we are a just bit proud of the fact that our new paper was given a resounding A* in comparison to the other papers tested for ink showthrough! Ours is the only paper with absolutely no show through at all! And we were up against Filofax and Rhodia Pad papers.

“You might recall a few weeks ago we featured a post asking for thoughts on Dodo Pad making packs of paper available. Well on behalf of Rebecca at Dodo Pad, thank you to everyone who responded to the post either in the comments or by email to Rebecca at Dodo Pad.

After some hard work the packs of paper are now available on the Dodo Pad website for purchase. Rebecca kindly sent me some samples of the paper to try out and share the results with you.

New Dodo Pad A6, A5 and Personal size 100gsm paper for 6 holed planners

Whilst I’ve done some paper tests in the past I sat down and thought about this one a bit more than the previous ones. I wanted to present the results in a fair and balanced way as possible.

As we all know what pen you use and what paper you use can often bring about some compromises as to what pen you can use with what paper you have in your organiser. We are always on the constant hunt for paper that will take fountain pen ink or gel ink without feathering or bleeding through.

So for this test I set out with a selection of pens, which are predominately fountain pens with medium or fine width nibs. My hand writing is not the best for broad width nibs…. or just bad in general! Yes I know! I included a couple of gel pens which I use on a daily basis and a standard Bic ballpoint as a ‘control’ standard.

I scanned in each sheet using a flat bed scanner and without manipulating the images in any way at all joined the front and reverse sides so you can see the front and reverse in one image.

The scanner of course uses a bright light source to perform the scan, of course on white paper this will show up writing on the reverse side depending on the rate of ink absorption and paper thickness etc. But as each paper sample was scanned in the exactly the same way the results should give you a reasonable assessment of each paper sample.

To give you a better idea of how well the Dodo Pad paper performs I conducted the same set of tests on Filofax white paper (approximately 70 gsm), Filofax Cotton Cream paper (80gsm) And Rhodia lined pad paper (80gsm) as well of course as the Dodo Pad paper (100gsm)

So here are the results starting with Filofax white paper:

Filofax White (60-70gsm)
Filofax Cotton Cream (80gsm)
Rhodia Pad (80 gsm)
Dodo Pad (100gsm)

The results are not too surprising. The Filofax White thin paper can not take any form of wet ink without bleeding through, it is almost like blotting paper!

Filofax Cotton Cream is slightly better. But paper weight isn’t obviously the only factor for the performance of paper with regards to wet inks. Compare the Filofax Cotton Cream with the Rhodia Pad paper, it is the same paper weight yet the Rhodia pad shows no bleed through at all. On the Rhodia paper there is a faint shadow of the writing of all pens, but in every day use I doubt if this would bother most users.

And finally a clear winner in this test the Dodo Pad paper, no bleed through and no shadow at all.

The Dodo Pad paper as you can see is square ruled on one side with a discrete logo in the lower right hand corner and plain on the reverse side.

It comes at present in three sizes, Personal, A6 and A5 sizes. It is available in packs of 25 sheets or at a discount if you order it in packs of 50 sheets.

So how much does this wonderful paper from Dodo Pad cost?  A pack of 25 sheets of Personal size or A6 size will cost £3.75 per pack or £4.50 for 25 sheets of A5 paper.

If you buy two packs at the same time you save 10% on the overall product cost.

Dodo Pad have also given buyers a special offer on their delivery charges.

Their standard UK postal/processing charge is £3.50. They realise that this is quite high if you just want to try the paper out, so they will reduce the UK delivery cost for up to three packs of paper or a shopping cart value of £10.50 (whichever is the greater) by 50% to £1.75. Enter 16PPR at checkout This code will work until 31st March 2017.

You can find the whole range of organiser compatible products including diary inserts on the Dodo Pad website.
Thank you to Rebecca for supplying the paper samples. I’m sure this new line is going to sell well.”
Thank you to Philofaxy for their review. The paper is available with the discounts on our website and also Amazon (but no discounts there I’m afraid!)

When a little kindness reaps enormous pleasure

We are pretty good at Dodo Towers at getting the right product in the right package to the right customer – we get very few returns and even fewer complaints. Which is a big relief to Big Bird Lord Dodo who has a pathological hatred of careless mistakes. OK I said it.

But we are human (apart from Lord Dodo of course who is…well, a dodo of course) and it does occasionally happen.

Last week we had a very apologetic email from a new customer who thought she had made the mistake and picked the wrong item. She gently and very politely chided us for product descriptions that were too similar.

dodontforget_dodo

But in fact we quickly discovered that the mistake was all ours. The wrong code had been typed into the database and so instead of a wiro bound Acad-Pad desk diary she received a loose-leaf A5 Filofax compatible diary insert. We offered her the correct item and asked her to send the wrong one back – and we would pay her postage costs. But she confided that she had already written in it and felt she could not return it. I told her to keep it and we would still send the desk diary. But she insisted that she would stick with that version…

“I won’t be able to send it back as I already marked something on it. Could you please advise me on what folder I should get so it all looks okay as my wonderful way of binding it together by treasury tags is not too practical ;-)”

We again offered to send the correct item and suggested that alternatively she would find a reasonably priced Filofax binder on Ebay and that we would refund the difference in cost as her refill was cheaper than the desk diary.

Radio silence for two days.

I emailed again yesterday morning. She replied apologising that had been ill and told me that she’d definitely decided to keep the inserts; she didn’t feel she could ask us to send something else and not get a ‘saleable’ item back, but that she really wasn’t able financially to afford a binder and the ones she’d seen on Ebay were too expensive.

Now…I really, really wanted to help her. I am a member of two Facebook groups for Filofax Fans. I’ve found the members to be incredibly generous with their time and help over the years. Many of the group members have quite big collections of Filofax binders. And quite a few of them use the Dodo Pad or Acad-Pad diary inserts in their Filofax. I put out a plea in the early afternoon for anyone with an old A5 binder who might be willing to let it go to a good home. Within an hour or so I had two very generous offers – from people who didn’t want a penny in return. Just the pleasure of helping someone out.

Our customer is overwhelmed by the kindness shown to her.

“I am very grateful… I am really touched by this kindness. I would be happy with any of the Filofax folders, I am sure 🙂 I think a situation like this can show how amazing people can be. I am still a little bit speechless…”

I think we may have a lifelong Dodo Pad customer and, most probably, a permanent Filofax convert! And I feel good too – it’s made a big difference to her for a small amount of effort and the will to do something to help someone out.

Toodlepip!

DodoPadler of the Day: Laurie

Hallooo dear DodoPadlers!  Miss Peabody here!

We have a special treat today here on Miss Peabody Writes!  DodoPadler Laurie is an American living in Scotland with her family.  Laurie uses a Dodo Wall Acad-Pad to keep her family informed of everyone’s comings and goings throughout the week.  She was happy to share some details with me of how she uses her Wall Acad-Pad along with the Save The Day reminder stickers.  Here is what she has to say about her Dodo Pad:

Laurie's Wall Acad-Pad

“I hang my Dodo Wall Acad-Pad on the messageboard in the kitchen so that everyone can see it.  I’ve included a couple of photos of a recent week as an example.

I use the top page for To-Do lists, and this particular week my son added his representation of a Dodo, complete with stickers for the mouth and hats on his head!

Here is a close-up of the weekly grid so you can see how I use it:

Weekly grid

You can see that I use the first column in the grid as Today, which is for things like holidays, trash collection vs recycling collection day, or on Monday of this week our house guests were leaving that day.  Then each person in the household has his or her own column, so I can see who is doing what and when all week.  My kids love the Dodo stickers because they are cute and because they allow them to know what’s going on since they can’t read yet.  I like that this system allows them to be a part of planning the week for the whole family and encourages organization from an early age.

In the left margin I write the dinner menus for the week so that I can plan my shopping and I never have that awful feeling of looking into the fridge at 5:30 pm wondering what to make for dinner!

I also use the Dodo Pad diary A5 Filofax insert in my Filofax, which is wonderful for adding fun to my day.  In it I use the grid to block out different categories of tasks for each day: Appointments, Household (where I write my cleaning schedule), Homeschool, Work, Personal (where I record daily exercise and other goals).

I love Dodo Pad diaries because they are so fun and engaging and, they are different every single week of the year.  They are proof that time management doesn’t have to be boring!”

Many thanks Laurie! It is so fascinating to see how different people use their Dodo Pads in different ways – I think the dinner menu on the left hand side is pure, but simple genius – I shall be telling cook to do the same here at Dodo Towers!

Would you like your Dodo Pad to be featured here on Miss Peabody Writes?  Please do tell us how you use your Dodo Pad diary, send us photos of your diary doodles, or tell us a story about your Dodo Pad.  We love to hear from you!  If you would like to share something with us, please post a comment!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Toodle-oo for now,

Happy Anniversary to Miss Peabody Writes!

Hallooo dear Dodopadlers!  It’s Miss Peabody, with a very special post today indeed!

Today is the first anniversary of Miss Peabody Writes!  Smashing!!  I can hardly believe it has already been an entire year since I’ve entered cyberspace and started writing to you dear readers.  So much has happened in this year!

The past year has brought loads of excitement and fun here at Dodo Towers.  We have celebrated several new products, perhaps most notably our new line of Filofax-compatible Dodo Pad and Acad-Pad diary inserts!  I am terribly excited by these diary inserts.

Dodo Pad Filofax-compatible diary inserts

We’ve even got our very own Dodo PersonalPOD to hold your personal size Dodo Pad or Acad-Pad diary inserts!

Dodo PersonalPOD

Also new this year is our “small but perfectly formed” Dodo Slim Line Address Book, which is purposely sized to slip into the back pocket of your desk-size Dodo Pad or Acad-Pad, and can be transferred to your new diary each year.

Another new addition this year is the crystal-clear write-on wipe-off page in the Dodo Pad Desk, Mini and Wall format diaries/calendars which can easily be moved week to week, eliminating having to re-write recurring weekly events!  Brilliant!  Lord Dodo never ceases coming up with fabulous solutions for our busy lives.

Other exciting events this year in and around Dodo Towers included the intrepid launch of The Doodle Car. Lord Dodo proudly sponsored The Doodle Car, in which three adventurous young men drove from the UK to Ulaan Batur to raise money and awareness for homeless children everywhere.  Lord Dodo decorated the Doodle Car with a doodle of his own!

We also celebrated National Doodle Day where Lord Dodo himself judged scads of doodles from Dodopadlers everywhere.  If you missed your chance to enter your doodle in the competition, fret not! It’s not too early to start practising your doodles to enter in next year’s competition. Find your entry form in your Dodo Pad or Acad-Pad diary in the week commencing February 7, 2011. Your doodle could be selected to win a prize!

I myself have had a terribly exciting year both at home and away. I was absolutely thrilled to attend the London Book Fair in April in Lord Dodo’s stead (after he was trapped in the Dodolomites when all aircraft were grounded due to the Icelandic ash cloud).  And I enjoyed a very snowy Hogmanay trekking in Glen Dodoe.

Snowy Glen Dodoe

It has been an eventful year indeed.  And there’s plenty more to look forward to coming from Dodo Towers very soon!  There are several exciting new dodevelopments on the way. Without giving away too much, I can tell you that there are some entirely new products coming soon, and you will also notice updates to some well-loved Dodo Pad products.

How has the past year been for you?  And, what would you like to see in future posts of Miss Peabody Writes? Do post a comment and tell us all about it!

Here’s to many more posts in the future on Miss Peabody Writes!

I am gleefully using my A5 Filofax-compatible 2010 Dodo Pad diary insert for the very first time this year.  It’s an absolute joy to have my Dodo Pad diary insert and all the rest of my notes and papers safely tucked into my organiser.  With everything I have to keep up on, my Dodo Pad-Filofax combination is indodispensible! You know, it was little ole me who gently nudged his lordship last year in the hope of developing these insert refills – and he listened!

There are still a few 2010 A5 diary inserts left and they’re to be had for an absolute bargain if you click here and buy through Lord Dodo’s Ebay shop. Make him an offer – but be quick – there are not many left!

As you well know, I am wedded to my Dodo Pad/Filofax combination.  Do you dear readers use and love a Filofax or similar organiser?  If so, do you use it for work, or play, or both? Do post a comment and tell us about it!
